 CARRIERA ACCADEMICA

Maggio 1987 – Dottorato di Ricerca in Geologia presso l’ Università di Milano, tesi “Storia sedimentaria del margine continentale settentrionale della placca indiana (Tethys Himalaya, Ladakh, India)”.

Maggio 1992 – Ricercatore presso l’ Università di Milano.

1 Novembre 2000 - Professore Associato presso l’ Università di Milano-Bicocca.

1 Novembre 2001 - Professore Ordinario in Geologia stratigrafica e sedimentologica presso l’ Università di Milano-Bicocca.

Relatore ad invito in diverse università europee, americane e cinesi (UCLA, Nanjing, Shangai, Lanzhou, ETH Zürich, Manchester, Potsdam) e a congressi internazionali (EGU Vienna 2010, Geol.Soc. Londra 2010, Corsalp 2011, Petroleum Group, 2011, Goldschmidt 2013), è oggi nell’ Editorial board di Basin Research e Ofioliti e nell’ Advisory Board di Italian Journal of Geosciences. Membro dell’ Academia Europaea dal 2012.

 

PERIODI DI STUDIO E COLLABORAZIONI INTERNAZIONALI

I principali periodi di aggiornamento presso Università straniere sono stati nella Primavera 1988 alla Rice University di Houston presso il Prof. P.R. Vail, massimo esperto di Stratigrafia sequenziale, e nella Primavera 19994 alla Università della California di Los Angeles presso il Prof. R.V. Ingersoll, massimo esperto in petrografia e provenienza dei sedimenti clastici.

L’ attività di ricerca è stata svolta da oltre un ventennio in collaborazione continuativa con Università ed enti di ricerca soprattutto inglesi (CASP Cambridge, Lancaster, UCL London) e francesi (CNRS-CRPG Nancy, Grenoble), ma anche cinesi, israeliani, arabi, svizzeri, statunitensi, canadesi e indiani (Nanjing University, NCU Taiwan, Geological Survey of Israel, Saudi Geological Survey, Cairo, Losanna, Berna, Tucson, Halifax, Calcutta).

 

ATTIVITA’ SCIENTIFICA

L’ attività scientifica di Eduardo Garzanti è documentata da oltre 140 articoli pubblicati o in via di pubblicazione sulle principali riviste geologiche a livello internazionale, che al 15 Ottobre 2012 avevano ottenuto 4111 citazioni (H-index 35). Filo conduttore è sempre stato lo studio quantitativo della composizione dei sedimenti come chiave di comprensione dei fenomeni geologici a grande scala. Dopo avere utilizzato soprattutto metodologie classiche (petrografia in sezione sottile, analisi dei minerali pesanti), nel corso del tempo ha aggiunto sempre nuove tecniche per lo studio dei sedimenti, tra cui le analisi diffrattometriche, geochimiche, geocronologiche, isotopiche (Sr, Nd), e da ultimo la spettroscopia Raman.
